LUME:
LUME, a startlingly innovative performing group is one of Brazil´s celebrated theatrical research centers. It has been dedicating itself to exploring the actor’s art for the last 19 years, reviewing the theatre as a craft - the art of doing - and the actor as a craftsman - the shaper of actions. The seven permanent actors have created a unique and personal approach to actors’ training, pushing the limits of physical and vocal expression, their performances breaching the conventional actor/spectator relationship. With its strong attributes of plasticity, expressiveness and command of the audience, LUME is an ensemble that adapts as much to the stage of conventional theatres as to street performance. Their performances embrace a wide range of styles and genres, from musical street performance, to hilarious clown acts, from wordless “butoh” style personal dance pieces to the recreation of stories, songs and legends discovered in the aging communities of Brazil’s Amazon region and the poignant, courageous lives witnessed among Brazil’s street peoples.
