KIRAN AHLUWALIA:

Kiran Ahluwalia - ghazals and Punjabi folk songs. “Kiran Ahluwalia's music takes a less familiar path, tracing Punjabi folk songs and an ancient form of poetic sung verse called ghazals. Ghazals originated in Persia some 1,000 years ago, moving to India 400 years later. In Ahluwalia's hands both traditions are subtly contemporized, conveying both the spirited playfulness of the folk tunes, and the lush grace of the ghazals with equal poise. Guitar, tabla, harmonium and percussion gracefully support Ahluwalia's sinuous vocals. For those uninitiated into the charms of non-classical Indian music, this is an ideal place to start”.
