The Balkan region represents many musical forms with very different ethnic roots. The Romanies have kept the Oriental aspect of Balkan music, while they have enriched it with the inheritance of their Indian roots. The Balkan brass bands possess an outstanding Romanian character and have been incredibly creative with changing the former rigid style presented by traditional brass bands. Wholly defined by their Gypsy lineage, Boban Markovic and the Serbian Orkestar are a quintessential 12 piece Balkin brass band.

Boban Markovic Orkestar has been in the last ten years one of the most awoved Serbian brass bands. The music of this twelve-member orchestra was first introduced to the Western audiences in Emir Kusturica’ s films “Underground” and “Arizona Dream”. The lead trumpetist of the band Boban Markovic together with the second trumpetist Jovica Ajdarevic was awarded with the “Trumpet Maestro” title. The band also gained other important awards including “ Golden Trumpet”, “ First Trumpet” and “The Best Orchestra”.
