The Manganiyar Seduction

THE MANGANIYAR SEDUCTION:

ABOUT THE MANGANIYAR SEDUCTION:

The Manganiyars are a caste of singers and instrumentalists from Rajasthan state in northern India. The Manganiyar Seduction is a theatrical presentation of their ecstatic music-making, mixing Muslim and Hindu traditions.

Conceived by the Indian director Roysten Abel, this 70-minute theatrical presentation features 38 musicians, all men in turbans and robes, who sit or kneel in red-draped cubicles, stacked in four tiers and illuminated when their occupants perform, an arrangement inspired by the red-light district of Amsterdam.

WHAT THE PRESS SAYS:

"...after a thunderous finale, during which the set's lights coursed in waves like a Broadway billboard or a football stadium display, the instantaneous ovation that followed was as tumultuous as what had come before." -NY Times

"I came out of this concert wanting to reach for my mobile phone and text 'OMG' to everyone I knew." -ABC Perth
