Lapa, one of the more bohemian neighborhoods of Rio, is the main destination to hear the so-called new samba and has many houses specialized in this type of music. One of the most sought after places, the Carioca da Gema, on Avenida Mem de Sá, has an extra special singer on Fridays: Teresa Cristina, who sings accompanied by the musicians of Grupo Semente.
Teresa Cristina was discovered playing samba in Lapa, and is currently one of the most important voices of samba in Brazil. Her repertoire is based on big names of samba, such as Paulinho da Viola, Cartola and Monarco, and she also stands out as a songwriter. With a soft and refined timbre, she is currently performing the songs of her lastest work, the CD "Delicada."
