LIAM CLANCY:
Liam Clancy is the youngest of The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem, the legendary Irish singing group who achieved tremendous success in the 1960s folk revival, best known for energizing and popularizing the Irish rebel songs. Their televised performances on the Ed Sullivan Show and in the Kennedy White House propelled them into the international limelight, and they went on to produce 55 albums and make countless tours of the US, Britain, and Ireland.
In 1973 Liam Clancy went out on his own, becoming an established television performer with his own series in Calgary which won a Canadian Emmy Award. A few years later, he and Tommy Makem rejoined and recorded several hits, touring together until the late 1980s. Through the 1990s he performed in various groupings with his brothers, his nephew, Robbie O’Connell, and his son, Donal Clancy, as well as the Phil Coulter Orchestra.
Currently, Liam Clancy performs solo in theaters and festivals across North American and Ireland, and runs his own recording studio in Ring, Co. Waterford.
